My nephews computer was infected with the above trojans and spyware/adware. The programs I used seems to have quarantined them but the computer is still really slow. I think it has been infected for a couple of months so I'm not sure if it's still infected or it's clean but the trojans have damaged some important files. Is this possible?
I have run all the programs in the 'before you post an HJT log...' thread but to no avail. I have not run Windows Update yet because I'm not sure the computer is clean yet.
He had MessengerPlus3 on his computer which I uninstalled because there seemed to be a lot of negative comments on the internet about it. When I uninstalled it said the sponsor program wasn't present.
I want to instal several security programs like Sygate firewall, SpywareBlaster, hosts file, but am reluctant to do so until the computer is behaving normally again.
The only protection on his computer when it got infected was Windows Firewall, so I tried to do an online Panda scan, but it kept crashing. I had to download and burn the ewido setup onto a CD on MY computer then used that to instal it on my nephew's computer. I ran the ewido in safe mode and it found and cleaned trojan.perfiler (msa64chk.dll) and dropper.small.abe (bUS.dll). TrojanHunter found one 'trojan' called Win32:CTX in the file ActiveScan (Panda??) which it quarantined. I then installed Avast antivirus on his computer and during the initial boot scan on installation (I think that's what it's called) it identified several trojans and gave me a list of options. I chose delete (hope that was the right thing to do!). After installation I restarted the computer and did a normal full scan and it identified and quarantined win32:Small-FU. However, the computer is still really slow to respond even though the CPU is ~2%.
