Internet Explorer keep opening on my laptop. After I close the window a new one pops up to my homepage. It does it over and over again. I think it wouls go until all the memory is used up. Here is my Hijack This log. Can someone please help. I just bought this laptopp 4 days ago from Tiger Dirct as an open box item.

I have had a look at your HJT log and it is fairly unremarkable in terms of malware, there are however three running processes which appear to be odd to me.

Do you speak German at all, or work for a German company and link up to their network? If you answer YES to that question then, what I see is not bad. However, if you think I'm off my head with such stupid questions, then I think we may be on to something.

What I see are two files, which use the German language, to oversee and implement the downloading of other files. I believe they are still trying to do just that.

I propose that we RENAME them and see what happens. You may have to do this in safe mode if they will not rename in normal mode, or you can use the Taskmanager to stop the processes while you rename.

Rename the bold name to DWSETUP and see if that stops the odd behaviour.

I just tried that, then rebooted and there is no change.

The internet explorer windows keeps popping open over and over on top of each other. I have tried Norton and Spyware Doctor.

I still fail to see anything remarkable in your HJT log, so it's time to do some scans.

Please Disable Spyware Doctor. From within Spyware Doctor, click the OnGuard button on the left side. Uncheck Activate OnGuard

Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop: drweb-cureit

• Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
• This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
• Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
• Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
• Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
• Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
• When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
• If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
  
  This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
• After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
• Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
• Close Dr.Web Cureit.
• Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
• After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply.

Hello,

I did the Dr web scan and rebooted. It did find a trojan called muldrop.3404. When I opened the saved Dr. Web file it was empty. It was located in c:/SystemVolume Information/restore. The problem is still occuring.

OK, the location of that Trojan is benign. That was not an active Trojan.

Let's try ActiveScan:

Please download: Panda ActiveScan to your desktop, using Internet Explorer.

• Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
• A new window will open...click the Check Now button
• Enter your Country
• Enter your State/Province where applicable
• Enter your e-mail address and click send
• Select either Home User or Company
• Click the big Scan Now button
• If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
• It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
• When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
• When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Nothing positive there either. This is looking more like a software problem than a malware one.

Click start then run, type prefetch then press enter, click edit then select all, (all files will highlight), right click any file, click delete, confirm

Click start then all programmes, accessories, system tools to run disc clean up

Reboot

Click start then all programmes, accessories, system tools to run defragmenter

Download, install and run Tune Up 2006 Trial It is a 30-day free trial.

Run Tune Up disc clean up

Run Tune Up registry clean up

Disable your anti virus programme then click Optimize and Improve to run Reg Defrag, the screen will lose colour during the process which can take a few minutes and then needs a reboot

Check the anti virus programme is running after the reboot.

Those will have cleared the drive of obsolete software errors

These are suggestions for making the most of the free trial

Click optimize and improve then system optimizer to optimize the computer, select computer with an internet connection from the drop down menu, this also requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to accelerate downloads, select the speed just above your actual connection speed, this requires a reboot.

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to run system advisor

Still the same?

Thank you so much for all your help. Since I had only had the laptop for less than a week, then store took it back and replaced it with a new one.

It was still having the same problem even after what you suggested.
