Need Urgent help w/dell labtop 8600

My computer labtop loads up with no problem but now I have no icons or no start menu on my laptop ,I tried to use the ctrl,alt,delete and try to open a new task and nothing ..I did the same thing in safe mood and nothing and I also did last know config and nothing .. Is this a virus ? I need help !!!! OS is xp pro :whistling: :blink: :help:

i think ur the second person with this problem, but urs seems more extreme............try system restore......if u can get to it.........if u boot ur computer, pres f8, then choose Last Known Good Configuration, see if that works.

Hello Tru Techie.

Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and then go to File --> New Task. Type chkdsk /f /r then press enter, type Y to confirm for next boot, press enter then reboot.

Windows will appear to load normally, then the monitor will show progress of the scan, rather than going to Windows. Do not disturb this. This will take an hour or so before it gets to the desktop.
