Hi

What's the best way of saving past e-mail messages onto a CD for posterity. I tried to drag & drop into a folder but as lots of them have the same name in the subject box the computer just keeps asking if I want to replace each message with the next one instead of saving them all.

Copy to folder only allows me to transfer them to a folder in Outlook express and I can't see how these folders can be copied.

I use Outlook Express with W98 2nd edition.

Any help much appreciated.

The only way you're going to do this is to select a message and do a File -> Save As, make a folder (or use a new one) and make sure you give each file a unique name. Then use Nero or whatever to burn the saved files to a CD.

Thank you Neil, I was afraid it would be like that. I can at least drag and drop the majority and then add the others.

Many thanks

Have you tried going to tools>options>maintenance>store folder
have a look at the path where your folders are kept. copy this by highlighting then go to run and paste this file then click ok this should then show you a list of folders. Close outlook express then burn a copy of inbox.dbx

I tried your way and got as far as the list of folders but then my computing skills ran out. If I try to open the file I get the 'Open with..' dialogue box, and I've never managed to successfully open a file with that. If I go to my CD burner, I'm unable to find the file there either.

Incidentally all my mail is kept in seperate folders in Outlook Express so I can keep my inbox empty and delete spam en-masse.

you will get that message. the idea I had was you burn the inbox or the folder you keep the email in then when you need to read them you put the cd in the computer and when it ask you what program to use to open it with you just point to outlook express
