Helloo0o..Ok, I'm having a problem with something on my computer. There are 2 programs running on here that are masked as iexplore.exe. I can't get them to close and they are sucking up a good amount of mem usage. I've tried just about everything..downloading multiple instances of spyware removal, browsing through forums, and nothing helps. So would someone be so kind as to help me? It would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I would need to look at your HiJackThis log to see if there is actually a problem. iexplore.exe is a legitimate process that you will see in task manager if you have a IE window open, and if you have more than one window open you'll see more than one iexplore.exe. The legitimate iexplore.exe is located in C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer

If you would like me to check it out for you, please follow the instructions below:

Click here!, and follow the recommendations in the guide.

If you're still having trouble, We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool, Hijack This. Follow the instructions in step five of this guide, and post your log here.

Most of what Hijack This lists will be harmless AND essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

Michelle-

thank you so much for your reply but i've figured it out. apparently there was adware bundled with a program i downloaded. so i went to uninstall it and it asked if i would like to uninstally the adware that came with the program. i clicked yes and it disappeared. ;) thank you anyway, much appreciated. ;)

Make sure you are disconnected from the Internet, all other programs and windows are closed and run HijackThis again. Please place a checkmark next to the following items, if they exist, and then click "FIX CHECKED":

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.vsznjbssa...4ncB7raMMk.html
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\about.htm

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E799039B-8E21-D3FA-5AEF-3BD08EB1A2F2} - C:\PROGRA~1\DRAWBL~1\byteless.exe (file missing)

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive). Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Reboot and post your new HiJackThis log to make sure everything is clean!

Congratulations you log is clean! Great job on the clean up :tazz:

I recommend checking Microsoft periodically for critical updates and downloading them when available.

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.
