thank you for your response coachwife6. in following the instructions from the website you provided, it states to rename the tsfmgr.exe and run it. i cannot get tskmgr.exe to come up. windows says it cannot be found. do you know where i can locate the file to rename it. i can run the msconfig with no problem. as far as i know, i'm no longer infected with the dr. watson debugger. i had a problem with it a few days back. i'll provide you a current log from hijack this. thanks for you help!!

I want you to reset your restore points. The instructions are following:

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(Windows XP)
1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

You have a number of randomonly named files on your system. We like to start with an online virus and trojan scan. Even though you have antivirus software on your system, it can become corrupted by malware.

Please run a free online virus scan here (tick the "Auto Clean" checkbox):

download & install the 30 day free trial, update it manually as described here http://tds.diamondcs...php?page=update as the trial version doesn't have auto update enabled

then press scan control & tick all the little boxes in the bottom part of that window, press save configuration and then close that window by pressing the red X in top right corner, then select system testing and select full system scan

Please delete your temporary files. Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin
Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Reboot.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

my pc seems to be running fine. but, i still cannot access task manager. even by pressing ctrl<alt<del<. i wonder if this file was inadvertently disabled/deleted? i just wanted to make sure that i had no programs running in background. but all in all, things appear fine. thank you for your help!

(if you have trouble downloading, right click the link and select "save target as".

Double Click to run, and it should fix your task manager.

thank you for all your help. i went to the website that you referred and did a little research. unfortunately, nothing worked. i'll have to contact my pc tech support and see if they can figure this one out. for some reason task manager just doesn't want to work. msconfig, etc... works fine. thanks again. keep up the fine work!!
