Workgroup takes long to refresh

Hey guys,
I need your expertise yet another time - this one a really irritating problem. Heres how it goes:

I have a Desktop and a latop that i have connected uing a Switch. I have assigned the desktop the IP 192.168.0.1 and the Laptop, 192.168.0.2. The submet mask is the same on both - 255.255.255.0. Both are in the same workgroup called "ANY". When i click "View Workgroup Computers" in "My Network Places" on my dektop PC - the whole window freezes up for about a minute. Then the computers appear. Why is this happening? This doesnt happen when i do the same thing from the Laptop - the icons appear ina flash.
