Ok, so I used to be able to run a search for normal.dot by going into all files, then search for *normal.dot* in drive C:\ (when using windows 2000) I've just tried this for XP and it's not the case?!? I am showing hidden files/folders in folder options....have I gone mad?!?

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Leah

Did you type normal.dot or *normal.dot*

You should find it if you click start, my computer, local disc C, documents and settings, username, application data, Microsoft, templates

*normal.dot*

Thank you. Yes, I can find it fine if I open it up in Microsoft templates like you say, but don't understand why it wasn't picking up when running a search? I went into "more advanced options" when running a search, and made sure "search for hidden files/folders" was checked. And, in Tools/folder options, checked "show hidden files/folders" but it still won't pick up normal.

Doh! Yes that works fine thanks.

I just wanted to make sure I knew how to get to it because I think it's corrupt -
word taking ages to open and when they go to fax/email things via one of our custom applications, it's taking ages to send.
I'm gonna get the user to check word process via task manager and if it's high, then delete normal... but I just wanted to check I knew how to get to normal as I haven't done it for a good year or so (we mainly support IBM Domino lotus database issues)...

...so yes, i have achieved what I need thanks! :whistling:
