I want to run some hardware checks on a PC that intermittently fails to boot. The PC belongs to a friend but whenever I boot it, it is ok.

I am guessing it is a dodgy component, and I was going to swap components with my PCs to see which were good or bad, but as I can’t get the PC to fail, this would not show much.

Is there an application I can run to check the PC’s hardware?

Speedfan will check temps and will also diagnose the harddrives. You can also use Memtest to check the for failing RAM.

The Ultimate Boot CD has a lot of useful tools as does Hiren's Boot CD. The later is a bit hard to find but Google for it.
