Hello all,

I am pretty new to web-building. I had a small site hosted on my free NTL account for a while. I registered a domain name, www.techno-freak.com, with www.oneandone.co.uk some time ago, and in their control panel I pointed my new domain name to my NTL space. I believe its called cloaking?

Anyway, after reading a few posts on here about Centrica doing special hosting packages on e-bay, I thought I'd snap one up. It didn't say on the advert that you had to already have a domain name. I was under the impression that I could cloak my techno-freak address onto my Centrica space.

I want to register a new domain for a website I am currently working on. I want that domain to be hosted on my new Centrica account, but my centrica account is registered as techo-freak.com and the DNS settings for Centrica have been put into oneanone.co.uk so that the domain name and host all work correctly at the moment.

I suppose I could register a new domain with oneandone and cloak it onto techno-freak.com, but that's kind of messy.

So, If I was to register a new domain, can anyone tell me how I change my Centrica account to host the new name?

Thanks.

My website is hosted with centrica hosting and the best thing to do is to contact them.

Log in to your centrica hosting control panel and get a support ticket and ask your question there.

Hi, thanks for that.

I did raise a ticket and funilly enough they have just responded.

It looks like they can change my domain for me, I just need to let them know when my new domain becomes active.

Cheers.

When you purchase a domain name, if you don't have webspace available to point it to, the registrar will usually "park" it. You have to log onto where you bought the domain name and change the DNS servers to point to where you want the site to be hosted. You may have to "unlock" the domain after it is assigned a webhost addy, and the registrar needs a way to know it's you, the legal owner.

What you are calling "cloaking" I think is called "redirecting"? If I own a domain name and I haven't done the site yet, I might redirect it to a site that is done, temporarily. Is that what you are describing? When a visitor types in www.thefirstaddyhere and gets taken to www.theaddybeingused ??
