Win XP cannot find Vol controls

I used to have a speaker icon in my lower right tray which has recently disappeared.
Ive been to control panel -sounds and when I tick box to have icon in the tray I get an error message (see attch)that Its not installed. its called, SndVol32.exe. but its not on my C drive and search cant find it on my XP disc .any help is well appreciated.
