We have a copy of windows xp, however when it loads up the icons on the desktop are showing as a black square rather than the pictures for the icons. So instead of the W for word it shows a black box, although it still has Microsoft word written under it!

Help, it's my bosses computer, he's not happy!

Right click an icon then properties then change icon, leave it as it is, then click OK and then apply.

Click start then all programmes then put the arrow on the programme, then when it opens the list, right click and icon then send to desktop, if you get a new shortcut, you can delete the blank ones

Hi All,

Thanks for the options, I will try them out tomorrow. Could this problem be associated with his virtual memory running low? I don't think so as it happens when he boots the machine?

Anyway I'll keep you informed

Regards
