I'm trying to help my father fix his Windows 98 machine via phone (he lives in Maine, I live in CT). He first found out he had a problem when he tried to open an option in control panel. The error said that it couldn't find rundll32.exe. I did some research on the Internet and he downloaded rundll32 and now his computer says it's missing k9371937.dll. I had him load and run Spyware Blaster and Norton Anti-virus (his version is 2 years old). Is it most likely a problem that Hijack This will take care of? Why won't Spyware Blaster take care of it? What about using Spybot Search & Destroy? My father is not computer-savvy so I don't know whether he can be stepped through the process. Any help will be muchly appreciated. :tazz:

I'm stepping my father through the "You Must Read This Before Posting..." Topic and everything is going alright so far. We're just going slowly and we have time constraints. Just checking in to let you know we are proceeding as you suggested, Don. :tazz:

I forget how to get into Safe Mode. Is it by pressing F8 when booting up the computer?

Could you run another scan with Ad-aware and Spybot
Have Ad-aware fix anything it finds, Restart the computer,
run a scan with Spybot have it fix anything it finds in Red,
Restart again please,
Please run these two online scans. Make sure they are set to clean automatically:

TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

You should try to delete any files that these scanners are unable to clean. Then let us know if its working better and what the scans found.

Then scan again with HijackThis and post another log.

Post back what they find please

Hi this is pinefarmer again. I took a break fom the computer for awhile. Performed all the scans. Here's what I came up with:
Ad-aware- 4 postings Vendor-Tracking, Type- IE Cache, Category-Data Miner all the the same.
Spybot- No immediate threats were found
Trend Housecall- Did not find any viruses
Active Scan- 4 Infected files
Virus: W32/S @ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\nonzipsr.RBO
Virus:W32/S @ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\closbern.RBO
Virus: Trj/Citifr @ C:\WINDOWS\Temporary Files\Content.IE5\K
Virus: Trj/Citifr @ C:\WINDOWS\Temporary Files\Content.IE5\K
Then this morning AVG found another virus: 1-Worm/ Sober.1
Path:\RECYCLED|DC91.EXE
All discovered viruses to date have been disinfected, cleaned, or deleted.
I still get the following message when booting up:
"A required .DLL file, K9371937.DLL, was not found."
I can not access any e-mail through Outlook Express either.
Two of my friends have told me to just reinstall Windows 98 without uninstalling it.
Any input there? Also should I consider using the W32.Sircam.Worm@mm Removal tool?
