Hello,

I've been a lot on this forum for the last few days. I successfully removed Vundo and Smithfraud thanks to you guys. But it seems that Generic.Malware.Ssp.3D527E18 is hard to remove :whistling:
Ewido, Ad-ware and Trend Housecall didn't find this malware. Bitdefender keeps blocking it from the internet but it would be better if I can remove it... It's coming from different flx[number].dll in my system32.
I almost forgot to add... I can't use Panda ActiveScan... is that the Malware doing or maybe I'm even infected with something else?

Here is my log

Hello,

Actually I haven't done anything after I posted the log. So the log underneath should be the same as I posted a few days ago. Before the first log, I scanned with Bitdefender, Adaware and let it remove everything it founded. Then I followed the steps for "How-to remove Winfixer, Virtumonde, Msevents, Trojan.vundo" and "How-to remove SpyAxe, SpywareStrike, SpySheriff and Smitfraud". Except for scanning my pc with Panda Active scan, because it didn't want to start scanning. It frooze on the download for the first time use. Instead I runned Trend Housecall and let it remove things it founded. The logs of the Vundu, Smitfraud and Ewido are attached to this message. Afterwards I runned Bitdefender again and Generic.Malware.Ssp.3D527E18 is still there. I then posted the HiJackThis Log.

Hi

Can you attach again the logs from Vundofix and smitrem? the files you attached are instructions.

smitrem log is located here:

C:\smitfiles.txt

The vundofix.txt will be in the vundofix folder.

Ewido log posted fine.

Can you also please look in your BitDefender virus logs and let me know exactly where this Generic.Malware.Ssp.3D527E18 is living and the file name please.

It is recommended to uninstall Tencent QQ because it does contain adware and produces popups.

In ad/remove programs it may be listed as either of the following:

Tencent
Tencent QQ
QQ

Once complete uninstall; reboot.

Find and delete:

C:\Program Files\Tencent <--entire folder

next...

Start Hijackthis, run system scan and check: (if present)

Your java is out of date. You need to update this and remove the old versions to avoid being exploited.

Download the new java from here:

http://java.sun.com/....0/download.jsp

You want this one:

Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 8

Next page that comes up you need to accept the agreement to download it.
First in list is the offline installation
This is the one to download. Save it to your desktop or your normal download folder.

1. Close any open programs you may have running, especially your web browser
2. Click Start > Control Panel
* Depending on your OS or configuration, you may have to click Start > Settings > Control Panel
3. Open Add or Remove Programs
* If you have Windows 98 or Windows 2000, open Add/Remove Programs
4. Click once on any item listing Java Runtime Environment in the name
* Not every version of Java will begin with "Java" so be sure to read each entry in the list
5. Click the Remove or Change/Remove button
6. Follow steps 4 and 5 as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java
7. Reboot your PC once all Java components have been removed
8. Proceed with reinstalling Java you saved earlier.

A reboot may be required.

Hi

Thanks for new info.

Vundo log looks good. :whistling:
You can delete folder C:\Vundofix Backups.

smitfiles.txt looks good

Kaspersky showed me those files your BitDefender was talking about.

question:

Kaspersky flagged this file:

C:\Documents and Settings\Sterremie\Mijn documenten\PROGS\Download\LeuteScript.exe/LeuteScript 3.exe Infected: not-a-virus:Client-IRC.Win32.mIRC.601 skipped

Is this a mIRC ad-on known to come from safe source? I ask because kaspersky flags mIRC as "at risk"
It looks like it might be related to "mirc trivia"?

As long as you know where it came from and know it to be safe you can ignore.

--------------

Download Killbox from here and save it to your desktop:
Please be careful with this tool. It is very powerful and will delete whatever you tell it to.
If you have other users running the computer you may consider moving killbox someplace safer than desktop.

http://killbox.net/d...ads/KillBox.exe

Close any work you have open. You will be rebooting shortly.

Open killbox.exe
Check the "delete on reboot" button and press "all files".
"all files" should be flashing green.

Copy the following list to your clipboard by selecting it and pressing "ctrl+c"

C:\WINDOWS\system32\components\flx1.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\components\flx10.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\components\flx11.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\components\flx2.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\components\flx3.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\components\flx9.dll

Click "file" menu and select "paste from clipboard"

Now press the Red circle with white X.
When asked to delete files at reboot say Yes!

Machine will reboot.

Please run new scan with your antivirus. Let it remove what it finds.
New detections should be here:

C:\!killbox

You can either have BitDefender delete them or simply delete the files yourself.

Let me know how it goes.
Let me know if there is any remaining issues.

Thanks :help:

Hi Blender,

I seem to have some problems with Killbox...
It didn't reboot my computer and I thought it was because of Bitdefender running. So I tried it once without Bitdefender, but it gave the same error message :

PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!

I also tried rebooting it myself, but the files are still there...
Here is the log of KillBox:

Hi

Sorry for delay. I couldn't get to my email notifications..

Something else is re-building those files.

* Click here to download SmitfraudFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Unzip (extract) the contents of SmitfraudFix.zip to a new SmitfraudFix folder on your desktop.
  • Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click the smitfraudfix.cmd file.
  • Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"
  • A text file will appear, which lists the infected files that it finds, if any.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report into your next reply to this thread.
Please don't run any other choices or files in that folder unless told to!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlog...processutil.htm

Then.....

Download Blacklight beta from here:

http://www.f-secure....blacklight.html

Accept agreement.
Download blbeta.exe and save it.
Disconnect from internet & disable antivirus to prevent conflict.
Shut down other apps that you have open.
Double click blbeta.exe and accept agreement.
Allow the driver to load if asked.
Click "scan"
Wait till scan is done.
Once finished if any results just hit "close".
Do Not use this tool to rename anything yet! Sometimes legit items are hidden.
Log file is created on desktop called fsbl***.txt (*** is date/time of scan)

Re-enable antivirus, reconnect to net and post contents of that log here.

Thanks :whistling:

Hi

OK...lesee what SmitFraudFix can do for us.

copy these instructions to notepad and save them to your desktop. You will need them to refer to.

* Restart your computer into safe mode:
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.

* Run the SmitfraudFix:
  • Open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click the smitfraudfix.cmd file.
  • Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete the infected files.
  • You will receive this prompt:
    • "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"
  • Answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" and it will begin cleaning the infection.
  • Next the tool check if wininet.dll is infected.
  • You may be prompted to replace the infected wininet.dll file if it is found.
  • Answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".
  • The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process.
  • If it doesn't restart your computer automatically when it is finished, restart it back to Windows normally yourself.
  • A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report into your next reply to this thread.
  • If the report doesn't open after you restart back to Windows normally, the report can be found at the root of the system drive, usually C:\rapport.txt.
New Hijackthis log too please.

Thanks :whistling:

You may be prompted to replace the infected wininet.dll file if it is found.
Answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

I didn't get this part... so I didn't do that. SmitfraudFix didn't reboot my pc, so I did it myself.
Here is the new rapport.txt:

Hi

Since your copy of wininet.dll is clean you would not have gotten that prompt from the tool. You would only be asked if wininet.dll was infected. The tools checks wininet.dll for a certain string in the file. If it is there it is infected. If not...the tool carries on to rest of fix.

Are you getting any more prompts/warnings from BitDefender regarding Generic.Malware.Ssp.3D527E18 ?

How is maching running now?

Thanks :whistling:

Hi

Glad to hear! :whistling:
And you are very welcome. Glad we could help.

I'll leave topic open for a day or two. let me know in a couple days if all is still well.

The tools you downloaded....

Blacklight:
You can keep this if you wish but keep in mind it is updated often. Please be careful with this tool.
Should it find any hidden items please don't let the tool rename them unless you research thourally. Sometimes legit items are hidden.

Killbox:
Nice tool to have around. Please be careful with it since it will delete almost anything you tell it to including system files. It does not care. It just follows literal intructions.
You may want to move it to someplace not so easy to access.

SmitFraudFix:
Might as well delete this tool. It is updated constantly and by next week this version will be useless.

SmitRem:
Might as well delete this too. it is also updated constantly.

VundoFix:
Might as well delete it because it too is constantly updated.

ATF-Cleaner:
A keeper
Handy tool to delete your temporary files from one spot.

Ewido:
Its a keeper. After the 30 day trial wears out there is no more background protection and no more auto updates.
However you can update manually and scan/clean with it much like one does with Ad-Aware & spybot S&D.

After a few reboots and checking to see that all is well; it is highly recommended to reset your system restore to remove any possible backed up infected files there.

Right click "my computer"
Click "properties"
Click "system restore" tab
Checkmark "turn off system restore"
Hit apply> ok> ok.

Reboot

Go back and turn system restore back on by removing the check, hit apply, and OK.

A new restore point is created at this time.
You will not be able to restore computer to any earlier than today.

Often malware infections attempt to lower your IE security settings to make it easier to install more junk. This needs to be double checked.
Check your IE security settings:
  • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
  • Click once on the Security tab
  • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
  • Click once on the Custom Level button.
    • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
    • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
    • Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
    • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
    • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
    • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
    • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
    • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
  • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

Since the HJT log is clean, here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
