I downloaded Spyware doctor and it gave me a list of files and reg keys that were infected. Unfortunately, I dont have the money at the moment to buy this product, but everything that it gave me had an adware name to it (eg: banner rotator, ad rotator, etc) so I deleted them, now the problem I am having is one file will not delete. C:\Windows\System32\winoac32.dll keeps telling me access denied. I have changed ownership in properties and it still wont let me delete. Is it just stubborn or is there a program using it currently? If so, what program is using this? If not, how do I delete it?

• Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
• Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
• By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
• Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
• Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
• Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
• At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
• Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
• Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
• Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
• DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I was able to remove the Winoac32.dll by cutting and pasting into a different folder (Recycler) and restarting. I then was able to delete the file. However, my IE7RC1 will not load up, has a fatal error upon opening, and i believe winantivirus might be on my system. Please help, I am unable to open IE7 without an error asking me to report to microsoft what happened. This is a new HJT log to find out what the problem is.

Ok let's do this:

I need you to rename Hijackthis because I suspect that you may have the Vundo infection that can hide some entries in your log.

• Please go to the folder where you saved Hijackthis.exe
• Right-click on it, then select Rename.
• Name it something like: jet.exe (or whatever you want)

Then:

Please download VundoFix.exe to your Desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
• Click the Scan for Vundo button.
• Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
• You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
• Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
• When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
• It will make a log in C:\vundofix.txt, please include that in your next reply along with a new Hijackthis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Now that you're clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

1.) Re-Hide System Files and Folders:

• Click Start
• Open My Computer
• Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
• Select the View tab
• Deselect the Show hidden files and folders option
• Select the Hide protected operating system files option
• Click Yes to confirm
• Click OK

2.) Reset and Re-enable your System Restore

We need to do this to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)

• Click Start » Run » ( type: SYSDM.CPL ) » OK
• Click the System Restore tab.
• Check - Turn off System Restore.
• Click Apply.
• Uncheck - Turn off System Restore.
• Click OK.

You have now flushed your previous System Restore points, so we will make a new one again since your computer is already clean.

• Go to Start » All Programs » Accessories » System Tools, and select System Restore
• In the System Restore prompt, select: Create a restore point
• Click Next
• Give a description to the new Restore Point. (Something like: Clean PC)
• Click Create
• Then close the window

3.) How to Prevent Re-Infection

Please take your time reading on this list, it is full of great tools and utilities to help you understand how you got infected and how to keep from getting infected again.

• Windows Updates (a must!) - It is very important to make sure that both Internet Explorer and Windows are kept current with the latest critical security patches from Microsoft. To do this, open Internet Explorer, then and select Tools » Windows Update, and follow the online instructions from there.
• Spybot Search & Destroy - Uber powerful tool which can search and annhilate nasties that make it onto your system. Now with an Immunize section that will help prevent future infections.
• AdAware - Another very powerful tool which searches and kills nasties that infect your system. AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy compliment each other very well.
• SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.
• SpywareGuard - Works as a Spyware "Shield" to protect your computer from getting malware in the first place.
• IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
• Firewall (a must!) - It is definitely a must have. Two good free versions are Kerio and ZoneAlarm.
• Anti-Virus (a must!) - It is also a must have. Two good programs are Avast and AVG, they're both free.
  Note: You must only use 1 (one) AV because if you have 2 AVs, it will conflict with each other and will only make your system slow.
