This is the first time I am here and I hope there is someone who can help me with my fix. I formatted my HD to clean install win xp corp. After the format, I got an error message that displayed "Device Driver not found MSCD001". I also noticed that when I hit F2 and enter the bios, the cd-rom in the boot order menu is "not detected". Originally, when I looked at the jumper settings of the cd-rom drive, there wansn't a jumper indicating a master setting. I placed a jumper on the master setting and it did not work. I saw on here a suggesting it be set to master and using the secondary ide cable setting. That did not work either. I tried a few more settings and still got the same MSCD001 error. Does anyone have a suggestion of how I can detect it so I can install win xp using the cdrom on my recently formatted HD? I might add that I used a windows xp boot disk and received the message:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll
Please reinstall a copy of the above file
