I used to be able to share documents easily and access the drive by opening the run command typing //comutername to get to the shared files of a computer. However recently there have been some problems. When I try to do this it always fails. If I ping a computer I also get something that I was not looking for. For Example: Computers Name is Matt

ping Matt

pinging matt.earthlink.net <-- Here is the problem I think, becasue instead of getting just Matt, I'm getting this earthlink junk too.

Also the IP I get is 209.86.66.95, instead of 192.168.1.100

WHy did this happen and how do I fix it. Please and thank you for your time.

Hi Immortalarena,

I've done a little searching and it looks like this relates to the earthlink.net ISP.
If you're a customer of theres then you'll find some interesting comments here :

I hope that helps.

Sorry it took so long to reply again.

Yes that was the exact reason, and now I join fellow Earthlink members in the fight against this obscene creation of nightmare.

Thanks again. Solution was in the article, just have to use the DNS Address they set up without the feature for now.

207.69.188.172 (East Coast)
207.69.188.171 (West Coast)

Thanks
