I hate for my first post to be a system issue, and be lengthy, but that can't be uncommon, eh? :tazz:

Alright - I had purchased a Windows XP Professional (with SP2) from my University's VLA. I installed it on one computer, and without knowing that it would restrict me to one, did so on another. I could not activate, and after a month, it no longer allowed me to log in.

Today, when I called Windows and informed them I had purchased my software with a VLA, I was given a new activation key and, tada, Windows activated.

However, one small glitch has occurred. In logging in, my desktop icons all come up, and I am able to use any of them. I can even get into My Computer and access any file I need. In fact, I am using the problem computer (desktop) as I type (Firefox). However, my taskbar is not loading. It starts off blue, and when my mouse is run over it, I get the dreaded hourglass.

When I ctrl-alt-dlt, I check out the task manager. explorer.exe is running, but taking 50% of my CPU!!!!! What the heck?!?

Further, if I open a program that is normally in the system tray, the Taskbar regains its normal color, with ONLY that program in the system tray (for instance, Norton Antivirus). The clock is stuck at the time I logged into my comp.

Following another thread, I a) ran spyware, b) created a new user and logged into safe mode.

After restarting, I logged into the new user, and was taken to the default desktop that any new user would go to, taskbar and all. I then logged out and back into the normal user, which is admin, and the problem persists!!!!

I am kind of at wit's end, and would love to get this problem resolved. In the next comment on this thread, I have posted my HiJack this log. If anyone can do anything to help me out, I will be very grateful.

I may have found a solution. I have installed, on that comp, MS Antispyware. It seems that the problem was solved by doing so. I will post any other updates if I find them.

I am actually rather impressed by this program. Of course, it is in beta mode. No doubt MS (or one of those demon hackers) will find a way to screw up the program by the time it is released in its full conception
