I am an experienced user here.
This is my girlfriend's machine and it's really giving me a hard time;
in fact - I've had the same problem before and should know how to fix it.
I've tried a few different drivers (i.e. RealTek and C-Media Mixer) but no luck.

Everest shows this:

Multimedia
Audio Adapter Modem #0 Line Playback

I've looked that up in Google and ended up with a few weird choices here and there,
but nothing has worked.

Do you guys know what the problem would be?

No - there is not an audio thing near the clock on the taskbar.
It says it has no audio device.

Any ideas gentlemen?

Try to find the exact Audio Controller by running any softwares like Astr 32 which could pull up system information.

Search for drivers and install it.

it could also be Modem Audio card combo. So llok and check whetehr it is so.
