Hi
I have been away for 2 months and upon arrival i found my computer not working. When i power it up it doesn´t load any of the programs that were supposed to be loaded on start up and 2 message boxes pop up from Unlocker 1.6.1 saying "No locking handle found". I can see the icons of the programs on the desktop but without images. Any program(uninstal, virus scanner, etc.) i try to start pops up the same massage including regedit or the "Add or Remove programs".
Tried everything with "Safe mode" but it doesn´t change a thing.

Can anybody please help in this matter as i have some very important stuff on there?

1st of did you install unlocker?
2nd when you start the computer start tapping F8 you will be given a list
of start up options. Choose Last known good configuration.
If this does not work then try System restore
1.
Click Start.

2.
Point to All Programs.

3.
Point to Accessories.

4.
Point to System Tools.

5.
Click System Restore.

6.
Follow the instructions on the wizard.

I installed unlocker ages ago and had never problems with it.

It must be some kind of a problem with opening/accessing .exe files [bleep] i can´t even open the System Restore.
I did it over the dos console but still it can´t open rstrui.exe.

Wish i could do that, but i can´t access the internet nor run .exe files.

Lets try this then upgrade unlocker

Note: If you are using Windows XP and you enable "System Restore" , you need to
disable "System Restore" in "Safe Mode" before using the instructions below.

1. Click Start, and then click Run.


2. Type "command.com" , and then press Enter. (A DOS window opens.)


3. Type the following:

"cd\"

"cd \windows"

Press Enter after typing each one.

4. Type copy "regedit.exe regedit.com" and then press Enter.

5. Type "start regedit.com" and then press Enter.

6. Navigate to and select the key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command

7. In the right pane, double-click the (Default) value.

8. Delete the current value data, and then type:

"%1" %*

Tip: Type the characters: quote-percent-one-quote-space-percent-asterisk.

9. Close Regedit utility.

thanx for the tip, but command.com and cmd won´t work, but i did this steps over "safe mode with command console", but the problem remains and i still can´t run .exe files.

I wish I could help, but the only tip I can give is using the WinXP installation cd-rom.

Yeah, i think it´s time to check out XP64.

Can you boot to safe mode
go to run type in msconfig then press ok
go to the startup tab is unlocker listed in there if yes untick and reboot
if not listed go to the general tab and and pick selective startup and disable 1 at a time. and reboot. Does this get us any where ?

just found out that non .exe installer work.
is there one for a newer version of unlocker?

it gives me: "windows cannot open this file" it needs to know the program to open it with

i can access msconfig through "safe mode with command prompt"

where can i find it?

c:\windows?

it is in: c:\windows\pchealth\helpctr\binaries

gonna try it now

btw: i deleted the unlocker folder but the problem still remains
