Hello there, I would appreciate it if someone out there could take a look at this log. I have followed all the required steps which were listed and I am still having disgusting pop-ups on my screen.

Sorry to appear impatient about this post, but I am really getting desperate here. Since I last posted I have purchased and installed "McAfee Anti-spyware" and have read books and surfed the net looking for a solution to my problem. All to no avail. I keep getting disgusting pop-ups - the window initially starts off with a title of "ximages.offeroptimizer.com". Can anyone make any suggestions on how to even temporarliy disable this? I cannot allow my family to use the internet whilst this situation exists. Norton parent controls are not stopping this p*** from popping up. I also installed SP2 after my last post. That has not stopped this situation either.
PLEASE HELP

thank you for your response. It seems that I no longer have the pop-up problem, however my system is running extrememly slow. I wonder if I may have gone overboard with all my spyware protection. Would you mind taking a look at my hjt file.

Hello Jumarma

There is almost certainly bound to be some junk (leftover bits and pieces) on your system that is doing nothing but taking up space. I would recommend that you download CCleaner update it, check the default setting in the left-hand pane, Analyze, Run Cleaner. You may be fairly surprised by how much it finds.

This alone may help with your PC's speed, but there are a host of other reasons that may be impacting upon it. If this doesn’t speed things up enough for you, I can only suggest that you post your problem in the hardware section of the forum; we don’t have the luxury of being able to deal with it here in the malware section.

The GOOD news is:

Congratulations! your new log is clean. :tazz: Just a little bit more to do to prevent further infection.

MOST IMPORTANT: You should update Windows and Internet Explorer to get all the Latest Security Patches to protect your computer from the malware that is around on the internet.

I recommend going to the following link and update as recommended by Microsoft. This adds more security and extra features including a pop-up blocker for Internet Explorer. Microsoft Update

Now that everything is fixed, I suggest that you consider getting these programmes to help keep the computer clean:

SPYWARE BLASTER - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer.
AD-AWARE PERSONAL – A fine free malware detector and removal programme
SPYBOT S&D – Excellent free spyware detector and removal programme
GOOGLE TOOLBAR - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
FIREFOX - Safer alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.
AVG ANTIVIRUS - Free antivirus programme if you currently are not using one.
ZONEALARM - Free firewall programme if you currently are not using one.

Remember to update these frequently.

Please note that whilst there is nothing wrong in having more than one spyware detector/prevention programmes, having two or more antivirus systems would be really bad as they may well interfere with each other.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-Virus updated. ;)
