I have recently noticed a huge slow down in my laptop's speed. I also get a ton of popups all of a sudden, most of them trying to get me to buy suspect antivirus software.

I have followed as many of the steps in the "Before you post in the forums do this" thread. For some reason Houseclean kept closing itself down after about a half hour. Oh yes, AVG keeps finding virus' in my windows\temp folder along the lines of Win??.tmp and it is a dialer.cid worm/virus. I am also getting virus warnings from my \temporary internet files\content.IE5 folder, but the name of the file is always changing and just seems to be a hodge-podge of letters.

Of course, any help would be much appreciated...I am running Windows XP PRO (and I think I messed something up for that because all of a sudden it is telling me that I might be a victim of software counterfeiting )
