lsass.exe and missing "run" in start menu.

hi, i've received a warning/dialog box from spybot search and destroy regarding a registry entry value change for winrun and winlogon. the winrun registry notifies me that a certain "\lsass.exe" was added. as for winlogon, the same thing happens. it shows that the old entry "explorer.exe" has be changed to "explorer.exe 'lsass.exe.exe' "

in addition to that, i also noticed that the "run" option in my start menu was missing and i can't find the check box for it on the advanced tab in the start menu properties... i've also tried modifying the gpedit file for the run option but it still would not appear....

i would like to ask for your help with this...

i have the following installed as my system protection:

i've scanned using all of my system security utilities but nothing came up...i've also tried several sasser worm removers but they couldn't detect anything....i'm really at a loss with this....

what happens is that the dialog box from spybot search and destroy just keeps popping up indicating me that my registry has been changed no matter how many times i pressed the deny change button....

what kind of virus/malware is lsass.exe? what does it do?

and one more thing i noticed was that the dialog box only appears when i open ms word files. from the moment i open any .doc file, the dialog box warning me of a change in registry entry pops up... in addition to that, i also found out that when i open word files, my system creates another copy of that file in the same directory...sometimes, the copy's filename starts with characters like "~$"...and the lsass.exe file itself has turned into a ms word icon. what causes this? is this related to lsass.exe worm/virus?


please please...i would appreciate any help regarding this...

oh and i just found out that the duplicate word files have an extension .scr
