Personally i like going for the clean install. GerryF has a good tutorial on how to format and install.

Now i would download the hard drive makers utilities and install them on the computer. With them you can reformat the drive to wipe the XP Pro off the drive. To do this you will have to pull the side cover off the computer to find out what make of hard drive is in the computer. Perhaps you can look in the computer info in accessorys to tell you the HD maker. Then you can use a XP Home CD to install it on the computer. You will need to get into the bios and set the boot order so that the computer looks to boot from the CDrom drive first. You will also need to make sure you have a regular XP home CD and not a recovery cd.

It won't be there unless you upgraded and chose to save the old version.

What won't work? Need to be specific to get accurate help.
