Extracting short clip from long movie file?

I have a 2 hours movie file on my computer, but i would like to extract a 3 minute clip of it. what (prefereably free, download.com-avaliable) program would i use to do this? thanks!

To clip videos I actually have been getting good results from Windows Movie Maker. Its really simple to use. You can export the movie directly to avi's.

If you're not happy with the quality you can use Super Encoder to clean up the avi and convert the video into just about any format of video in one step.
