Fluxbox is great. I love it especially on older hardware. Xfce is also good and a lot like Fluxbox. They work well if you like a GUI and want to save as many resource as possible. DSL has used fluxbox for awhile. One of my favorite Live CD's is GoblinX. It allows you to choose between four WM's to boot to. Give Enlightenment a try,it's light fast and very cool in multi desktop handling.

SimplyMepis has been my main OS for the last year and half. I haven't tried MepisLite but it should be good for limited resource and high processing machines that require the added resources we sacrifice for a pretty GUI.

SimplyMepis has Guarddog firewall built in. Like most Linux firewalls it's based on IP tables for filtering and blocking. very effective espically behind a NAT router/modem.

Reading your Specs in another post you should be able to run the full KDE desktop with the bells and whistles. I have an older Celleron 1.7ghz system with 256MB of ddr PC2100 running a full install of simplyMepis that I let the bums and beggars that come by to use the internet use. very solid and stable machine.

The low RAM just means you should set up a Swap partition at least twice the RAM (I did) and it should handle it nicely.
