hi and welcome to geeks to go!!!
is this hard drive an IDE drive or a SATA drive???
if it is a IDE harddrive then normally there is a set of "jumpers" on teh back of the hard drive which look like this:
1234
[::::]
noramlly the 1st pins are master and the 2nd pins are to set the drive as a slave move the black jumper from position 1 to position 2 and it should be set as the slave drive.
just make sure that you plug the drive into the slave port on the ribbon cable which is normally a 1/3rd of the way down the cable and is usually marked slave
hope that helps

Howdy:
HERE is the jumper diagram for your hdd from Samsung's webite.. Follow those instructions and you should be good to go..
Also, that particular hdd is Ultra DMA (EIDE), so chances are, you will need an 80 wire/40 pin IDE cable and an IDE port on your motherboard that supports EIDE to get it to work !!
