That's a shame I wanted to test to see if it was the graphics card that was the problem.

Have you done a memory test to check if the RAM is at fault? I would recommend Memtest86+ and I would also recommend letting it run a a few hours.

Go to the prebuilt & iso's section and download either the ISO or the floppy disk version.

The ISO version will have to be unzipped and then burnt to a CD using your CD burning software. Once you've burnt it, restart the PC with the CD in, it should boot straight off the CD and begin testing.
The floppy disk vesion is quite similar. Unzip the file and run the install.bat file. Command prompt will open with some instructions, insert a floppy disk, type in the drive letter of your floppy drive (usually A) and press enter twice. After a few seconds it will tell you the process is complete, leave the disk in and restart your PC.

i ran the test for about 3 hours and it came up with 3 errors. i didn't write down the first on but the second was memory error detecter! copying between 1a4d275 abd 1a4d0bb did not result in accurate copy. memtest has detected that your computer cannot accurately store data in RAM. go tp FAQ at http://hcidesign.com/memtest

does this mean i need new ram

If it displays errors then it's time for new RAM.

Download CPU-Z
Run it, click the memory tab for general information and the memory timing information.
Click on the SPD tab for speed information.

They RAM doesn't have to be a straight swap, you can put in as much as the motherboard allows or as little as you want to. There are a few brands that string to mind, Corsair, Kingston and Crucial.

You currently have 2X 512MB DDR PC3200 sticks of RAM in your PC.

It might be that only one of them is faulty, take one out and do the memory test again and if it's not that one then try the other one.
The stick of RAM you buy must be DDR PC3200.

If your still unsure of what you need use the Crucial system scanner on their website.

Do you have any other computer or maybe even get a friend to lend you his/her GC and see if that works?
