Media Player Exception

Upon attempting to play any DVD in either Windows Media Player or Media Center, I receive the following message:

"An unhandled win32 exception occurred in wmplayer.exe [xxxx]."

xxxx is a number that varies. It's usually 39xx but this last time it was 496.

This message appears in the Visual Studio Just-in-Time Debugger window. If I disable Just-in-Time Debugging in Visual Studio, I simply get a dialog that alerts me to the unhandled exception. Either way, the program terminates.

This occurred in WMP 10 and is still occurring after upgrading to WMP 11 Beta 2.

I don't play DVDs on my PC all that often, but I don't recall this occurring prior to installing Visual Studio 2005 and .NET 2.0.

I'm running Windows Media Center Edition 2002 and Windows Media Player 11 Beta 2 (although this problem first occurred in WMP10, as previously stated).

Any ideas?

BSplayer says "Can't Open File"

VLC works!

Thanks a million for the workaround. Any idea how to get WMP and WMC to work? I don't mind using VLC, but I'd like to correct the problem and be able to use Media Center.

Thanks again!!

Items in blue which are underlined are clickable to give more information about the process

Click start then run, type prefetch then press enter, click edit then select all, right click any file then click delete, confirm delete

Click start, all programmes, accessories, system tools to run disc clean up, then from system tools, run disc defragmenter.

Click start then run, type sfc /scannow then press enter, you need the XP CD

Windows File Protection will show a blue onscreen progress bar, when the bar goes, reboot

If you do not have an XP CD you can borrow a same version as was originally installed XP CD, if you downloaded SP2 then you need an SP1 XP CD

Download and install Tune Up 2006 Trial

Run Tune Up Disc Clean Up

Run Tune Up Registry Clean Up

Click Optimize and Improve to run Reg Defrag, which will take a few minutes and need a reboot. You should disable the antivirus programme to run this

Check the anti virus is running after the reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to optimize the computer, select computer with an internet connection from the drop down menu, this also requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to accelerate downloads, select the speed just above your actual connection speed, this requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to run system advisor

Great! I will try that thanks!

Just to clarify, I have my original XP CD, but it's XP MCE with SP2. That will work, or were you saying it must not be an SP2 CD?
