Internet problem

Hi I some times my internet works and some times it doesnt. It worked before when I first installed it, but after a month i needed to mass clean my computer so i wiped it. When I tryed to reinstall it my computer did'nt have an ethernet driver. so I reinstalled it using usb driver. now some times the lights on my internet box and my inter net wont work and some times they wont be flashing and the internet will work. Would this be caused by a virus or faulty computer drivers?

By the way my internet is through version and I have a westell modem.

I cannot give you a gurantee but having wrong/old drivers will cause many different issues. Going to the manufacturers web site and finding the correct and newest driver for your OS is definitely the first step in troubleshooting.
