ok, it started friday morning befor school, i downloaded a file from the internet and a couple minutes later my whole computer is taking literaly 5 min to go to websites and open programs. i run a virus scan or two and find i have a virus known as ishost.exe. i look up methods of removing ishost.exe on the computers at school and found that XoftSpy is a great tool to use against it. so when i got home i run it, delete/quarentine it, restart my computer and run another scan to chech if i got rid of it. i did (along with about another 600 malware :whistling: ) but there is one that remains after all the others. it is called ssqrp.dll and i cannot get rid of it. ive used XoftSpy, AVG Free 7.5, Ewido anti-spyware and Norton internet security 2003 but none of them can get rid of it; and except for AVG and XoftSpy, they cant even detect it.
Any help on getting rid of ssqrp.dll would be very helpful. lol, sry for the long-winded speech in advance...

here's an up-to-date HJT log i ran while typing this.

Hi Zardok and Welcome to GeekstoGo!

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Hi Cretemonster and ty for the warm welcome.

I downloaded VundoFix and am currently running it, but it strikes me odd that it's taking almost 3 days to scan. For most programs i would think this is unusual, but im not familiar with VF and how long it should take to fully scan. It's taking a good 5-30+ min to scan each .dll file. is this odd or irregular? also, does browsing the internet and/or running other programs interfere with it's scan or does it really make a big difference?

Thanks.

I think thats a good conclusion.

At best it should have only taken 20 to 30 Minutes.

Kill the scan and reboot the machine please.

Please download Combofix to your desktop.
http://download.blee...Bs/combofix.exe

Doubleclick combo.exe to launch the application.

Follow the prompts that will be displayed on the screen.

Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished, it should produce a log, combofix.txt

Please post that log in the next reply.

Ok, the virus is still fighting back. I ran a XoftSpy scan to get rid of anything that could have lingered after i used VundoFix and ComboFix and it came back with nothing out of the ordinary. so i started a scan with AVG and whent to sleep. I wake up at 4:30ish am and waddle down to my computer to chech up on it and find AVG has caught a half dozen viruses and my computer is extremely sluggish. Then, all of a sudden, it becomes completely non-responsive and soon after the screne goes black and the hum from the computer stops (like when it's turned off), but the power light is still on. I wait a minute and text starts appearing on the screen. It says:

Award BootBlock BIOS v1.0
Copyright © 2000, Award Software, Inc.

BIOS ROM checksum error
Keyboard error or no keyboard present

Detecting IDE ATAPI device ...
Found CDROM, try to Boot from it ... Fail

Detecting floppy drive A media ...
INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

I have tried to manualy shutdown my computer (press and hold the bower button) but when it reboots, before anything else, this apears again.
By the looks of it, my best guess is that my hardrive crashed and i need to insert the operating system CD I don't have and reinstall it to start from scratch. I want to save that as my very last option.

My latest HJT log is the one posted above.

Unplug the computers power supply and let it sit for 30 minutes.

Then restart the machine in safe mode and see if ComboFix will run,if it does, scan and save the log.

Post the log back here please.

It wont reboot in safe mode. as soon is i turn it on the same message appears in white letters on a black screen,
"Award BootBlock BIOS v1.0
Copyright © 2000, Award Software, Inc.

BIOS ROM checksum error
Keyboard error or no keyboard present

Detecting IDE ATAPI device ...
Found CDROM, try to Boot from it ... Fail

Detecting floppy drive A media ...
INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"

The keyboard is appearently unresponsive and little can be said about the mouse. The processer or the fan or something inside the machine sounds like it's going a mile a minute (the gentle hum of a single computer sounds like the server room of a University  )

I'm at a loss here... :whistling:

What brand name system is this?

Have you ever pulled the sides off the machine to look inside?
