On my other computer, it was getting pretty laggy so I used Treadmicro to speed things up. I've used it before without any problems. But after I used it yesterday, I'm having trouble logging on to my account. I would enter my password, it would go through the 'loading user settings' screens and pull up my desktop, but after a couple seconds it automatically logs off and takes me back to the login screen again. No icons appeared and neither did the start button or the taskbar. The same thing happens when I go into safe mode and try the administrator account, or the 'last known good configuration' option. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am unable to log on to the admin account since it automatically logs off before any other screen shows up.

Did it still do that using safe mode with command prompt instead of safe mode

Safe Mode with Command Prompt (SAFEBOOT_OPTION=Minimal(AlternateShell)): This option is the same as Safe mode, except that Cmd.exe starts instead of Windows Explorer.

Yeah, I've tried all three options of safe mode, and they all take me to the same log in screen.

You can use this guide to repair XP

Possibly, you will need to press the power button and keep tapping the delete key, (possibly F2) until the PC enters set up. Change the boot order to CD ROM Drive then hard drive, press F10 then press enter, load the XP CD then type Y then press enter, as it reboots, look for press any key to load from CD, press enter

You will need your XP product key to complete this

The XP Product Key is a 25 character alpha numerical code, which does not include the sequence OEM

If you have audio / video files which are subject to DRM you should check with the provider for known issues with performing an XP repair install
