I need help with this thing. I have tried 3 different spyware/adware scans. I've tried to scan in safe mode, I still can not get rid of this booger. I looked in my hard drive and didn't see any of the files that this website suggested, I'm not very computer savvy, so I'm not sure what else I can do, short of buying a new modem. Any help would be appreciated. I

Hi and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Sam and I will be helping you. :whistling:
In order to help you we need to see what's running on your computer.

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP, or Service Pack 4 if you are running Win2k. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.

I installed it and it said "the expected version of the program was not found on your system"

ok--it's downloading now......
