Hi
I've downloaded a boot disk for windows 95, started the laptop and the screen now says:
"CD-ROM Device Driver for IDE (Four Channels Supported)
©Copyright Oak Technology Inc. 1993-1996
Driver Version : V340
Device Name : BANANA
No drives found, aborting installation
Device driver not found: 'BANANA'.
No valid CDROM device drivers selected
A:\> "
I've no idea what to do next! Any suggestions?
Thanks
'Hard disk boot sector invalid'

also........I have a floppy from the manufacturer that says "IBM Internal CD-Rom Installation Kit Option Diskette" but I'm not good with DOS. Can I take out the windows 98 boot disk after booting up, then use this floppy to load the CD-ROM drivers? If so, what commands would I type in? thanks!

please start your own thread....I know, it seems counterproductive with similar problems but it is hard to keep track of who is having what problem when you post in another person's thread

Hi,
I get EXACTLY the same problem with my Compaq Presario 3017CL. I switch it on and get:
Hard Disk Boot Sector Invalid
Press "H" to retry hard disk, any other key for floppy
The thing is, until recently, it used to do this only every other time that I booted up, but then I just switched it on and off again, and then it would boot up properly. I was running Avast with updates and all, as well as Spybot and Ad-Aware, with regular scans. I did get viruses now and then, but then deleted them.
So I tried the recovery disks, but all that happened was that after going throught the whole process, it would just give the same error message after rebooting. It did the same after just running the XP Home installation again, formatting and then restarting.
What is up??????
Please help me someone. I replaced this hard drive 12 months ago, since it had the same error last time. Now this one is doing the same. Should I just go out and buy a new disk?
