Maybe it's just doing it's thing, installing updates?
Or do you mean it does this every time you turn off your machine?

I've left it for 3 hours once just to see would it work...it didn't...this happens every time

What if you try to download the updates from microsofts website? does that give you the same problem?

it tries to install it but windows installer stalls when setting up the installation...

try doing a simple cleaning using disk clean-up go to all programs
find that in accesseries under system tools
then clean out your prefetch folder from start >>run>>prefetch>>click ok
then go to edit and select all
on any blue file click delete
then go to my computer>>open c:drive>>open windows folder>>look for windowsupdate>>should show as note pad empty it or delete all
reboot then try updates again

no luck...could I be dealing with a virus?? I've noticed lots of semmingly insignificant folders in my C drive and when I open C:\Windows...ie: folders named 0ab8f836582595fc2eca56 (that's just one folder...there are MANY)....does this have any signifigance?

or post a hijack log if theres malware youll be sent to the malware forum

in the folder I posted, there are 3 items...$shtdwn$.req,msxml4-KB927978-enu and msxml.msi....I'll look over the virus help forum to see bout the hijack log
