Should I go into safemode in order to be able to do the self-help removal guide for this virus which is shown in the YOU MUST READ THIS BEFORE POSTING A HIJACKTHIS LOG, REQUIRED STEPS BEFOER POSTING YOUR LOG ???
This virus won't let me do anything much less go onto the internet.
Question: Do I do the procedure steps as listed in the read this thread exactly then post the hijack info? :whistling:

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted: "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.

A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a new hijack log.

The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please help and show me what to do. It took me an hour to just get here because the virus kept preventing me from getting anywhere on line and constantly taking me offline.
With the info submitted above, one of the steps said: "The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. YOu may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" <----this prompt never came up
I GOT TO STEP ONE: SCAN FOR SPYWARE/ADWARE AND ad-aware SE downloads but nothing pops up or happens. I tried it several times but I think the virus is preventing it from opening....now what? (I will try to do this procedure again since I ran the AVG which took off the Trojan virus tonight)

I also cannot proceed to download AVG Anti-Spyware for it too won't allow me to continue.
UPDATE: Around 1am this morning I was able to download/scan my computer using the AVG anti-spyware website using their direct scan method which took almost an hour to complete. It did find the Trojan virus that was causing me a lot of trouble. (can't remember the name but if I remember correctly it started with an N)
UPDATE: I just noticed that the virus/spyware I have is the same as the Winfx virus. I will try the "fix" as posted when I get home tonight. (Hopefully I won't have to stay up till 1am again)

I even tried to download IE 7 but it won't work so I had to delete it and continue using IE 6.

Since I'm new at all this tech stuff, I am presuming that if I enter the above report into Hijack this I get a report?
Okay, here is the report from Hijack this: (the report does not mention anything about the trojan. I also tried to download IE 7 but after a 1/2 hour of it downloading, I couldn't get on the net, just got a blank white page when I clicked on IE 7...could it be the trojan was interfering?)
Please be patient with me since I'm not an expert on virus's and other tech stuff...Thank you all for all your help.

A newer version of service pack is available. Service packs increase the safety of your system. Visit Microsoft's windowsupdate site to download the newest version of the service pack.

It seems that you don't use an anti-virus scanner or your scanner is not active. Only an anti-virus scanner can protect you against new viruses. You can look here for a good anti-virus scanner.

We didn't detect any active process of a firewall on your system. Reasons maybe:
(1.) You are using the windows firewall or a hardware firewall.
(2.) You are using a firewall of an unknown vendor.
(3.) You are using a firewall, but for unknown reasons it is disabled
(4.) You don't use any firewall at all.
We recommend you to use a firewall. Download and install one or activate windows xp´s own one. In case you got questions or you want us to add the firewall you use to our database, contact us at our forum.

http://www.thespykil...=tpmod;dl=item5
Scroll down to the download section

Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

DownLoad http://www.downloads...org/KillBox.zip or
http://www.thespykil...les/killbox.exe

Restart your computer into safe mode now. (Tapping F8 at the first black screen) Perform the following steps in safe mode:

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Standard File Kill. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file. It will ask for confimation to delete the file. Click Yes. Continue with that same procedure until you have copied and pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\jezmesh.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\amomkerc.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wirvufc.dll

Note: It is possible that Killbox will tell you that one or more files do not exist. If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you don't miss any.

START – RUN – type in %temp% - OK - Edit – Select all – File – Delete

Delete everything in the C:\Windows\Temp folder or C:\WINNT\temp

Not all temp files will delete and that is normal
Empty the recycle bin
Boot and post a new log from normal NOT safe mode

Please give feedback on what worked/didn’t work and the current status of your system

Computer is running like normal again. Actually, even faster than before I got the trojan.
Should I try to download the IE7 yet? I've tried twice before (when I still had the trojan) and all I got was a white blank web page.....The tech guys at work have told us not to download it yet onto our computers at work........ my log below.

Question: I know I read on here about having too many spyware programs running because they will work against each other.
I have the Windows Live OneCare spyware and it hasn't detected a thing like AVG & Ad-aware SE has.
Need your advice if you think I should delete the OneCare (it also keeps popping up telling me that I need to download IE7 which I tried twice with no luck but that was before I got rid of the trojan that was causing me so much grief) Should I subscribe/buy the AVG program instead of staying with the free one?

Oh, I ran the Panda Activescan and here are the results: (I change my name the showed to "myname")

Multipe spyware programs is generally OK - multiple AV's is not

Please download http://www.atribune..../click.php?id=4 to C:\
Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES.
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HijackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears at reboot.
