(DO NOT OPEN THIS FILE)
hxxp://oliphotos.ol.funpic.org/index.php?pic2038.jpg

Thats the link thats been going around, and my brother had opened it by mistake.
I was wondering if anyone had a quick solution to removing the file, as I do not want to reformat the computer just yet.

Hello,

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

I like how you guys always follow a template. Ive used HJT before ^_^

That's because otherwise we have to type it over and over 20 times a day :whistling:
I couldn't know you already had Hijackthis previously or used it before.

It is important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!

* Go to start > controlpanel > software > add/remove programs and uninstall next programs if present:

Toolbar888
MSN Messenger
<== this one is infected. You may reinstall it afterwards once I say it's ok again. Not before.

I note in your log that you have FlashGet the download manager -
Be aware that the trial copy bundles Cydoor adware, but when you register the Ads disappear. So in case you didn't purchase Flashget, I recommend you uninstall it.
To remove the program: Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove it.

Open notepad and copy and paste next present in the quotebox below in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\explorer\run]

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.
(In case you are unsure how to create a reg file, take a look here with screenshots.)

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following if still present (some entries won't be present anymore):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1da7dbe8-c51b-4ae4-bc6e-21863349b0b4} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: 888Bar - {C004DEC2-2623-438e-9CA2-C9043AB28508} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\{3C8AC~1\888Bar.dll
O3 - Toolbar: 888Bar - {C004DEC2-2623-438e-9CA2-C9043AB28508} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\{3C8AC~1\888Bar.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [explorer] C:\WINDOWS\system32\winstall.exe
O16 - DPF: {E055C02E-6258-40FF-80A7-3BDA52FACAD7} (Installer Class) - http://activex.matca.../speedtest2.dll
O21 - SSODL: hubbsi - {7b1eeccd-0a6d-4ad5-8ac1-4af5722b3885} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vwlummc.dll (file missing)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!
Don't worry if some entries won't go away, we'll deal with that later...

---------------------

Please download, install, and update AVG Anti-Spyware
  • Load AVG Anti-Spyware and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Then click on the Scanner tab at the top. Click the "Settings" tab and then change the recommended action to Quarantine and click Automatically generate report after every scan. Click back to the "Scan" tab and then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run, so be prepared.
  • AVG Anti-Spyware will list any infections found on the left hand side. When the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. AVG Anti-Spyware will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
  • Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop).
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot!!
    I need the log later.
-------------------------

* Download Combofix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combofix.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished and after reboot, it should open a log, combofix.txt.
Post this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog and the log from AVG Anti-Spyware.
You may need several replies to post the logs.

You people are smart :whistling:
I'll never understand how you do it, but I hope I can learn so I can fix my own problems instead of bothering you all.

Anyway I have to go to work, so ill post it when i get home (exactly 6 hours from this post time)

edit: I uninstalled and reinstalled a newer version of msn prior to posting here. It stopped the infection towards msn. Is it still safe?
Problem is issues with the worm lurking in the background now.

Hi,

You were not supposed to install MSN Messenger yet though - because it may get reinfected.

Please follow my steps and post the logs :whistling:

That's ok. Just make sure you don't use this computer as long as it is still infected, because you are infecting other computers as well.

I thought i should update you, sorry for taking more than 1 week to reply. Been busy with work.

My brother got a new laptop as he is in university so I plan to reformat the infected computer. However since I plan to Import my old Registry ill send you a hijackthis log once i transfer my files and you can still help me out incase my old files have any malware issues I was not aware of D: Hang tight and give me a few days.

edit: Incase that didn't make sense, I now own his computer, so im moving my working computer files into the infected one, after reformatting it.

I have a question, is there a difference to the Scan reports Pre fix or Post fix? I have both copies. Which would you like? Scanning combofix now.

edit: Incase it wasn't obvious, Its AVG i was wondering about.
