Automatic Restart/Shutdown and computer gets hung

i have been having this problem for some time now
whenever i am browsing the web my computer just restarts on its
own or hangs up sometimes without any error message at all.
I often lose important info. i am working on while on the net.
It happens quite frequently now.
Would appreciate some advice

Is your OS totally updated with all service packs and patches?

Look at this Microsoft article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316416 to see if this applies.

I'd suggest running Chkdsk and SFC /scannow (be sure to have your Windows CD available).

Do you have antivirus software and is it updated? Do you run scans regularly?

I hav norton as well as avg
so viruses r not a problem
i ll try updating my dsl modem drivers
if it doesnt solve the problem i will tell u again
