Help, folders keep freezing up

Lately when i go into a folder like, videos, photos, my docs, programs just about any folder I go into likes to freeze up on me. I ctrl alt del and it comes up as non resp and I can close it out. Any Ideas? It has only been doing this recently like this past week or so. I am runnin XP Pro p4 3.4Gz HT 1.5G pc3200 ram @ 2ns. Also am runnin mcafee, spybot and System mechanic 6, which I think sucks [bleep] but sometimes helps out.
