Hello. For about a week now every time I start up Windows Explorer, Spybot's resident teatimer thing pops up alerting me of a registry change. It pops up about with 4 different values, and most of the time the deny button is grayed out and I have no choice but to accept the change. This happens every time I start I open explorer. After I accept and deny the new registry values, explorer hangs for about 10 seconds before going to the folder I want. I've ran spybot, ad-aware, and my virus scanner (AVG free) several times, and while it fixes many other things, it hasn't helped this problem. I've noticed when I go into the task manager, I see two explorer.exe files running. Could one of these be a bad one?

Anyhow, here is my hijackthis log. I would really appreciate any help and advice with this, thank you in advance.

Hi Nikki66 and welcome :whistling:

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Hello, thank you so much for the help, I really appreciate it a lot. :whistling:

Anyhow, I must have really done something even more stupid between the time I posted that log and yesterday, because by the end of the day my computer wasn't even usable and explorer stopped loading completely. Since it just kept getting worse, I restored a backup copy of my C drive last night that I had from the beginning of October. I've updated things as much as I could, and scanned the computer with all the programs again. This copy was definitely not clean, but Explorer and everything seems to be working okay now. I'm also using a different virus scanner, Avast, instead of AVG, and I'll try to get used to using Firefox instead of Avant browser.

I did still run the VundoFix program like you suggested, and it didn't find any infected files.
This is my new hijackthis log, which looks a lot different now because of the backup.

Glad your up and running again.

Please re-open HiJackThis and select scan only. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

Reboot your machine.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program

For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

I am not seeing anything else in your logs to worry about. Are you experienceing any problems?

I wouldn't mind seeing the results of another scanner, just to make sure there is nothing lurking.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post, along with a new HijackThis log.
