I have read the resource you said to read before posting and all this is just completely confusing to me...I have no idea what any of this means... I have pop-up blocker, norton antivirus, microsoft antispyware and spybot... all these popups keep getting past everything I have.. I have all these popups out of nowhere and I can't seem to find the source.. I had an InetGet2 folder but I deleted it, there were no contents inside.. and I uninstalled two other programs that looked suspicious.. but it's still crazy... STOPZilla found tons of threats but you have to pay for it to delete them... Can someone help me with this?

• Rename Hijack This.
  • Right Click on Hijack This and select rename.
  • Change the name to AnalyseThat.exe
    From now on, when I refer to Hijack This, you will be using the icon labeled AnalyseThat.
• Let's get an Uninstall List from HijackThis:
  • Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
  • Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
  • Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
  • Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.
• Please re-open HiJackThis and scan and save a new log file.
• Post Logs
  • Uninstall List
  • New Hijack This Log

Hello again Mademoisellekel. Let's get started with the cleaning process.

• Remove Questionable Programs. Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Scroll down to and highlight each of the following programs and select uninstall/remove:
  • 888Bar
  • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 1<-----This one is not bad, just very outdated. We'll get the new one in the next step.
  • LimeWire 4.3.3<-----This one is optional, but highly recommended (at least until we get your computer cleaned up.) Read this and this for more information.
    Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only)<-----Link for more information.

• Update Java:
  
  Click here to download the latest version of java ( Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 10 ). Please install it and then reboot your computer.
• Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
  Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
  In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.
• Please re-open HiJackThis and scan and save a new log file.
• Post Logs
  • Vundofix Results (vundofix.txt)
  • New Hijack This Log

Hey... so... here's the deal...I still have pop-ups galore... and now sometimes when I'm logging into a page, it'll be logging in and then will just drop the entire thing.. Explorer closes completely... I deleted all the programs you told me to.... When I ran the Vundo thing... it found no infected files... so I just re-did the hijackthis log for you... now do I uninstall the vundo thing?

You may want to print out these instructions as you will not be able to access them online during part of the fix.

• Display Hidden Files Please set your system to show
  all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.
• Turn off Tea Timer
  I notice that you have Spybot's TeaTimer running. While this is normally a wonderful tool to protect against hijackers, it can also interfere with HijackThis fixes. So please disable TeaTimer by doing the following:
  • Run Spybot-S&D
  • Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
  • On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
  • Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
  • Restart your computer.
  You can reenable TeaTimer once your system is clean.
• Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, Right Click inside the listbox (white box) and click add more files
  • Copy&Paste the entry below into the top box:
    
    • C:\WINDOWS\System32\ljqii.dll
  • Click Add Files and Click Close Window
  • Click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.
• Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below being careful to get only these:

OK... Here we go... haha...

So.. I went step by step...

1.I displayed all hidden files...
2. I went to uncheck Tea Time and when I did, there were no prompts so I just closed it. However, when I clicked back on it to see if it worked and was unchecked, it had checked itself back again. So I'm not sure if that successfully was unchecked. I unchecked it again and then rebooted...
3. Vundo again found no infected files, so then I added that file like you told me to. It seemed to work and did not come back up after the reboot.
3. Then after reboot there was a limewire icon on my desktop. But strangely, I deleted Limewire yesterday. It wasn't in any program lists, so I just deleted the icon and went about my business.
4. I checked all those files you told me to in HiJackThis and told it to fix the checked ones.. THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEM CAME IN:
ok.. so It starts deleting and this huge window comes up and says this:

I have NO idea what any of that means and didn't know what to say if I emailed that person!! I just clicked OK and it kept deleting other stuff..

Yeah, sometimes it's rather confusing. I'll pass this error along to my instructors and see if we can get ahold of Merijn and see what that error is. First time I've had that happen.

The good news is that it seems that Vundo is gone.

Thanks!!! Vundo's gone thank God but there's still something going on that's odd... Explorer keeps just dropping in the middle of things... I'll be looking at a site and it'll just close.. The whole window just vanishes... Or sometimes it'll tell me that it encountered an error and needs to close... and then it'll just close... It's killing me!!

• Please run Bit Defender
  Note: This Scan requires Internet Explorer to run.
  • read the EULA and click 'I agree' if you wish to proceed with scan
  • Allow the ActiveX control to install, if prompted.
  • The Scanning Engine and Virus Definitions will now update.
    You may receive a message about the scanning engine being updated and that you need to close Internet Explorer and reopen. If you recieve this message, close IE and reopen. Then navigate back to the Scanner.
  • Now click on Click Here to Scan
  • Your entire computer will now be scanned.
  • When BitDefender completes the scan, select the "Detected Problems" tab.
  • Click on "Click here to export scan".
  • Save the file as an HTML to your Desktop.
  • Then click on the saved file and allow it to open with your browser.
  • Go to Edit>Select All then copy/paste that log back here.
    
    This could be a long scan so do it when you have at least two or three hours free.

I did the ATF cleaner.... but when I went to do that other thing.. the bit defender one.. it said it couldn't load the scanner.... what do I do?

Let's try something a little different. The Malware may be causing this problem.

• You have a CoolWebSearch infection.
  • Download CWShredder here to its own folder.
  • Update CWShredder
    • Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
    • Click Check For Update
    • Close CWShredder
  • Boot into Safe Mode:
    Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.
  • Now run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about. Reboot your computer into normal windows.
• Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below being careful to get only these:
  
  O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Soundmx] \soundmx.exe
  O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [jnxauehvmwrjm] C:\WINDOWS\System32\mtcgpz.exe
  
  Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Exit Hijack This.
• Reboot into safe mode.
  Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.
• Delete Files/Folders
  Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these files (if present):
  
  C:\WINDOWS\System32\mtcgpz.exe
  soundmx.exe<-----You will have to use the search feature to do find this one. Click Start>Search>For Files or Folders.
  
• After that, Reboot to Normal Windows..
  
• Run an Online Scan at http://www.trendmicr...tro/default.asp
  • Click 'Scan Now. It's Free'
  • Make sure 'Yes, I accept the Terms of Use' is checked and click the Launch Housecall button.
  • You may be prompted by a Security Warning. Select Run to allow the appliation to Proceed
  • Click 'Scan'
  • Now, select Next under Scan complete computer for malware, grayware and vulnerabilities
  • Your entire computer will now be scanned.
  • Play the 5 question trivia (that never changes) to pass a small amount of time (optional, of course)
  • Take note of any files that can not be cleaned by the scan, write them down and manually delete them (from safe mode if need be)
  • If you need help deleting and object, post the name and location in your thread or start a new thread IF you don't already have one started.
  • Save any log file that it creates for posting back here..
• Please re-open HiJackThis and scan and save a new log file.
