Slow internet speed after spyware removal

I need some answers.

Recently I had lots of spyware issues that got taken care of. My computer is clean. My question is, could any of the fixes or new anti-spyware software be slowing down my connection speed? I have DSL internet and I used to get connection speeds of up to 300+ kbps. Now I average 78 kbps. What could be wrong.......does anyone know?
