Hi
I have just set up a new PC and am having some problems with my internet access. Basically, pages are loading so slowly that, for all but one page at a time, any others are timing and not loading any any graphics
or images.

I have tried running both firefox 1.5 and IE7 and get the same problem.

It is not the connection as I have reconnected my old pc and it is running fine - eg I can load a dozen or more pages simutaneously no probs. I have tried tweaking the settings in FF but to no avail.

I have tried updating the drivers for the network adapters - on the mobo and a seperate one. They are up to date.

I have tested my current bandwidth and the reading is:

58.80kbps = download speed of 7.35 KB/sec.

I know this isn't real fast but it hasn't been a problem in the past.

Thanks
Arb

Internet Server Providers may have software that might to settle this problem.

It can help you speed up your surfing.

They are known as Web Acclerators.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Andrew. I tried Google's web accellerator - no difference.

Here is an update of my efforts to resolve this issue:

Everything is running sweet except on thing - my internet connection. I am on a fairly slow broadband connection which runs on my old pc at about 217 kbps. I do the same test on my new one and I get 52kbps!

It seems to run ok for about 30 seconds then it just stalls. I have done speedtests and got a big 0 kbps. I can't work it out.

I have:
  • installed a network card - no difference
  • checked the drivers for the mobo and the network card - all ok
  • increased the number of connections to 20 - no difference
  • installed google web accellerator - no difference
  • tried both firefox and ie7 - no difference
  • disabled all of my virus protection software - firewall, defender and nortons - still no difference
  • done all of the tweaking things you can do for Fire fox - no joy.

Could it be something to do with the install of xp? Should I reinstall xp?

Please help, this is driving me crazy
