i am running windows xp home, sp2, and am one of 3 users (all with admin privileges).

When i log in to windows, i immediately recieve an error message indicating "userinit.exe" has "failed to initialize proprely...press ok to terminate the application" upon doing so, am left looking at the wallpaper, with no taskbar or icons.

Ctr-Alt-Del delivers the message "taskmgr.exe" has "failed to initialize properly....press ok to terminate".
From here, none of the other windows hot-keys seem to work. that is, i cannot log off or shut down with alt-f4, or launch my apps with the keyboard shortcuts i have set up.

When logged in as another user, Explorer.exe launches with no errors, and everything works (as far as i can tell) except ctr-alt-del, which summons the same taskmgr error.

i can launch the task manager manually from my system32 directory and it works fine.

Following a lead from another forum, i downloaded and installed the UPHclean util from microsoft (which is supposed to work in the background to prevent userinit errors), with no visible result.

To get things started, here is a hijackthis log, from one of the non-crippled accounts (obviously).

*The userinit.exe process is executed by windows when you log on to your computer. It will run various network and user-setup related tasks to initialize your session on the computer/network. You should leave this process running to ensure that you are logged on correctly.*

Just a question, do you have either styleXP or Stardock installed? If so, please uninstall them. Both of these programs mess with the Windows shell and Explorer.exe is what you are having a problem with.

If that doesn't work, or if you don't have those programs installed, I advise you to download and run HijackThis and post a log in the Malware section.
