On the laptop.

We can install windows on the same partition only a different folder. That will probably eliminate the errors as it will be seen as a fresh install. Then, if the original installation can't be repaired, you can move into the new install. The documents will still be ok doing this.

Ok...back out of the current repair. At the point you're at, I'm not sure whether you press F3 or Esc, but it should say on the screen.

Reboot to the cd and we'll do this one screen by screen together.

At the Welcome to Setup screen, press Enter.

Accept the License Agreement...F8

On the next screen, the fun begins. Press Esc to continue the installation.

Let me know what you see on the next screen...your choice should be the current installation.

ok now maybe im in trouble. the screen i was in when it came up with the error was the instaling windows screen with 26 min left, thats when i got the message. now its asked if i want to cancle the set up of windows and i excepted , it asked for the xp disk so i put in now its come up with another error iedw.ex_. should i switck off the laptop and star from scratch'

ok we are shut down and rebooting from disk i will follow your instructions as above and let u know what i see, it will tak a minute or 4 to get to that page.

Select the C: Partition and press Enter

The next screen will ask you to confirm your decision...press C

You should then get the Format Options...Do you?

leave the system of actual archives intact

Choose the last one, "leave the system of actual archives intact" and press Enter

The next screen should give us the option to choose a different folder. Is that what you get?

to use a differnt folder press esc to
to exit press f3

Press Esc

When asked to name the folder, type 0 (zero) so that the folder's name will be WINDOWS0.

Press Enter

Setup should start.
