No I did not. Should I do a search foo file named or containing "prefetch", or where should it be?

Quite a few people with limited knowledge have monkeyed around with this machine over the past week.

"last good configuration" did not work when I first got a crack at it. Since then, I think IE has been un-installed/re-installed...although I don't know how that could be done without a web connection or install disk...

This machine is on the desk of my senior salesperson and he is quite cranky without it.

How do I get a look at the DHCP settings? As I mentioned a number of posts ago, when I hit the ipconfig /all, a scren flashes and goes away, not giving me time to look at it....

Start>>>Run>>>Type in Prefetch>>Click ok

your prefetch folder should open

there should be alot of dat files in there

or you could find it by going to my computer and open c:drive>>look in windows folder

its ok to empty this folder the contents inside it there just some mappings and stuff it will replenish itself

Finding prefetch on this machine (XP) is no problem. The one with the problem, again, does not find a file with that name.

Sorry im so used to working on xp

Go to control panel >>system>>hardware>>device manager

are there any yellow or red exclamation marks there...they could even be question marks

or right click beside network adapters or modem if its dial-up

uninstall the driver and restart computer

computer will notice the change and you will be prompt to make adjustments

No exclamation points or question marks. The user of this machine did just inform me he does receive e-mail....via our server I think. But when clickin on Internet Explore, we receive the page could not be diplayed/could not find server message.

I have changed start page options numerous times....

it maybe a couple of things since your able to recieve email

can you send email if you can then your connections should be ok

did you ever have access to internet explorer

are your internet security settings allow you to have access to IE

Or maybe this could be a malware issue

if you think it maybe a malware issue then you can do some cleaning here

I have managed to get to ascreen that shows the ip config. Am I to match the ones on this machine to the one in question? If so, how do I go about doing that?
