I was working on a Dell dimension 4400 with xp home edition that would not boot. I fixed a memory issue, but could still not get it to boot without an xp quick boot disk in the a: drive. Tried to fix MBR without success. It was suggested to try flashing the bios to update it. I flashed to the latest version, ( 5 ), ( previously had (3). Now it won't boot at all. No beep codes. The diagnostic lights on the back of the case light 3 green, 1 amber. contacted Dell support, they were unable to help.
Tried taking out the cmos battery for 10 minutes, reinstalling, still get same error lights. When I power up, the cd rom drive light comes on, and it spins up for about 3 seconds, then shuts down. The power light stays a steady green.
Any ideas on what else I can try, or should i just put the thing out of it's misery, ( and mine!)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
