See if this page can help you:

http://bertk.mvps.org/html/tips.html

On the blue panel to your left click on "Disable Monitored Drives"

Follow the instructions. See if you can turn off the extra drives and just leave the main one. Then see if you can get system restore up again

Interesting (well irritating really) there is only the C drive that is being monitored, so somehow the system thinks there's something else but there isn't? Should I removed any CD ROMs DVDs? Also I get the message when I initially go to Properties :

This application has failed to start (it is called rundll.32.exe) because framedyn.dll was not found.

Is that important?

Regards

ugh... yes it is important.

Follow this guide and see if it solves the problem.

Edit: don't remove any cd rom's or anything yet.

No that doesn't work because in the dllcache framedyn.dll is not present.

I took the Sims 2 out of the DVD drive - sorry

I have located framedyn.dll it is in C:i386 but I cannot locate C:windows/system32/dllcache to be able to move it there even if I allow hidden files to be shown?

Okay, hang in there this is a bit new to me ...

The framedyn.dll you searched in C:\i386

Is it 182KB dated 08/03/2004?

Close - it is 181kb or 184 on disk and was (bizarrely) created in August 2005 yet modified in August 2004 - not sure how that works. The PC is just about 1 year old by the way

We need to be certain that we copy the right file.

Search for framedyn.dll ...

Tell me how many locations of the file is brought up and the file path/size/date.

If you can take a screen shot of the search page even better, if not ... just do what I listed above.

Yes I already did that, obviously one was in the C:i386 location and the other was found in the Microsoft.com website info that you sent - I am assuming that as the 'enquiry' was 'open' when I did the search it found that too

Copy the framedyn.dll file from the i386 folder.
Navigate yourself to C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem
Paste the copy of the file into the wbem folder
