you can also try Ultimate Boot CD...it has tools to check your hard drive among other things...boots and runs from cd drive...set your bios to start from the cd drive first...then the hard drive...read about it and get it here...

Well.. thanks for the help everyone, but I don't think i'll be able to fix this problem. I'm just going to take my laptop to someone who is better at techincal stuff than I am.
