XP wont boot

On A Dell Dimension 9100. running XP home.
on start up and without warning the harddrive would not boot,

Dell's suggestion was to remove all usb except keyboard and mouse. but now that has failed they feel it got to be a restore.
Swapping the BIOS battery has also not helped
